Portugal leads winners at World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony 2015

unnamed (29)Portugal has led winners at the World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony 2015, taking the title of World’s Best Golf Destination for the second year in succession.



 
At a glittering event at Conrad Algarve, Portugal, Ernie Els Design was also recognised with the title of World’s Golf Course Designer of the Year.
   
 
 

HBAA launches charity auction following the Big Site Visit

HBAAThe HBAA has announced the launch of their online charity auction as a result of their Big Site Visit on 3-7 September. The auction, which will run until the first week of December, invites participants to bid on a range of prizes including fantastic overnight and weekend stays, spa days and fine dining experiences.
 



Each week the site will auction lots generously provided by HBAA member venues with proceeds being split between two industry foundations – Meeting Needs, which delivers life changing assistance to those in need both in the UK and overseas, and the HBAA Foundation which supports the development and retention of talent in the hospitality and meetings sector.

The announcement was made by PATA CEO Mr Mario Hardy at the Association’s annual Aligned Advocacy Dinner in London, UK on Monday, November 2, 2015 in the presence of UNWTO Secretary General Mr Taleb Rifai and Mrs Zeljka Radak Kukavicic, Managing Director, National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro.
   
 
 

PATA Welcomes National Tourism Organisation of Serbia as a Government Member

unnamed (9)The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is further strengthening its influence in the Balkans with the news that the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia has become a government member.






The announcement was made by PATA CEO Mr Mario Hardy at PATA’s annual Aligned Advocacy Dinner in London, UK on Monday, November 2, 2015 where the guests included Serbia’s National Tourism Organisation CEO, Ms Gordana Plamenac, and UNWTO Secretary General Mr Taleb Rifai.
   
 
 

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) partner to foster inclusive and sustainable tourism

UNWTO NEW logo_40UNWTO and the EBRD have signed an agreement to work jointly in promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism as a driver of socio-economic growth. Advancing resource efficiency and promoting youth inclusion are two of the major priorities of the agreement.




The inclusion of youth in the tourism sector through training and employment opportunities, resource and energy efficiency, and capacity building for SMEs are among the key areas covered by the agreement. UNWTO and the EBRD will also cooperate in identifying best practices and in knowledge sharing.

Successful UNWTO/PATA Forum Held in Guilin, China

unnamed (4)The 9th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Guilin, China successfully ended on October 21, 2015.






The two-day conference, under the theme “Tourism and the Experience Economy” was organised by the People’s Government of Guilin of China, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
